October 2017

It was certainly a frightening month in our house. Stomach bugs and colds showed their nasty heads for almost the entire month. This proved to be an extremely difficult situation with Lehi and I both working and kiddos throwing up/being contagious. It was certainly a trying month--but we made it through!

It started with Maverick. He has a stomach bug weekend #1, which consisted of throwing up for about 20 hours. The next weekend was Lincoln's turn! But Lincoln's bug decided to hang around for 5 days!! 5 days of a 1 year-old throwing up makes for long days, more laundry then I care to think about, and an overall miserable house. The strange thing is he would be almost 24 hours clear of throwing up, and he would randomly do so again. This happened for the first time when I had to bring him to class with me. He was doing ok, walking around and such, and right when class was going to start, all my students are sitting down, and Lincoln started throwing up and kept throwing up, for what seemed like an eternity. As soon as I recognized that he was going to, I quickly attempted to catch it all, but it overfilled my cupped hands all over the lab floor. I had vomit on me for the rest of the day, (luckily) a change of clothes for Lincoln, and the college students most likely had the best birth control lesson of their lives. He came to class the day after, too, but luckily no in-class vomiting.

We finally got in the clear with Lincoln--finally that 36 hour clear, and Maverick thew up that evening. Oh boy! So Maverick fought his second stomach bug, this one for about 3 days. He also came to class with me--and was quite the little teacher. (One of my students commented, "Wow, they grow up quick!" when he saw Maverick a few days after being introduced to Lincoln the first time). Luckily, it was a group work day, so I was roaming around the classroom, but Maverick sat on my chair in the front of the room, drawing on the board, and talking to anyone who was in sight. He taught them about volcanoes, how Jesus said to be nice to everyone, and about any other random topic you would think of. He really got into it with hand motions and everything. The students loved him.

So weekend # 3 approaches with Lehi getting a nasty cold, and then me week #4. It was one heck of a month! But luckily the boys were healthy enough to participate in the ward trunk-or-treat & trick-or-treating! Maverick was so extremely excited for Halloween. He asked if it was "today" about about 20 days straight. It was a bit of a challenge coming up with his costume because he kept changing what he wanted to be. For the longest time, it was Darth Vader--which was perfect because I wanted Lincoln to be Yoda. But then he randomly flipped a switch one day and announced he was going to be a leaf. And he was going to the store himself to buy everything and would be making it himself. That lasted a solid 2 weeks...and I had actually embraced the idea and look forward to seeing his completed costume. And then he decided on Vader again. We decided to get in on the Ihop free "scary face pancake" for kids with the cousins on Halloween...big mistake! We waited about an hour for food and missed out on some valuable trick-or-treating time. But the kids still got plenty of candy. Maverick was super excited--he and Parker would run from house to house--but if someone has a dog he didn't mind spending forever petting it. He told me he wanted a dog for Christmas...yup...nope.
