New Years
Our New Years is seldom a planned event (aka we don't do anything). We have come to appreciate the love of fireworks Texans have and simply enjoy the show put on by the county. The first year we were here, it scared the living tar our of us, because it is non-stop and insane. This is a picture my friend snapped from her bedroom window of our neighborhood show. Always bigger in Texas.
Bike Rides
It was a fairly quiet month for us. One of the highlights was Maverick attempting to ride his bike without training wheels. He is still trying to get the hang of it, but I think he will have it down soon! These boys could ride their bikes the entire day if we let them. Yay for Texas winters, which is prefect riding weather!

Basketball Beginnings
Maverick has his first ever basketball practices! We signed him up for an after school, 6 practice program that invited everyone in his elementary school. ....he was one of 2 kindergartners and was certainly playing with the big kids. I talked to him about "being you" and not worrying about what everyone else was doing. He had so much fun and was so positive. He struggled a lot, but was determined to keep trying. Maverick melted my mamma heart when he asked the coach if his "little brother" could come practice with them. I told him that Lincoln and I would dribble on the side, but he wasn't quite old enough to participate in practice.
Lincoln was a trooper--I packed him a Belvita breakfast cookie as a snack in which he self established a routine of taking a bite, running to the drinking fountain, running back, taking a 10 second break, taking another bite, etc. He pretty much self entertains.
I think Brielle is embracing the getting-toted-around-everywhere stage.
After his first practice, I picked up a couple of cupcakes from Marsha to celebrate him trying something new. He approved of them. ;) Maverick is loving basketball and is always super excited for Tuesdays, because that means practice!
Lincoln is also showing a big interest in basketball--dribbling around at home and saying when he is 4 he is going to practice.
A Kinder Pulls a Muscle
I got a call from the school nurse, telling me Maverick hurt his neck and won't put his shoulders down...and I needed to pick him up. Weirdest call ever. I picked him up, totally confused with what was going on. Maverick told me his substitute teacher was helping him unzip his jacket because it was stuck and when she pulled on it, it hurt his neck. This was in the morning...he refused to relax his shoulders and was guarding (what we are guessing was) his pulled muscle all day. (I was called around 1:00). At home, I got him to relax enough to massage it out a bit and it helped a little. The next day, he was a lot better, but it was still pretty tender. We are still not sure what happened...
Mak's Birthday
We were able to celebrate Mak's first birthday this month! We met at Bigz and let the kids run around outside/inside (it was pretty cold, so they didn't last very long outside). Marsha made an adorable cake and we soaked up time together.
