Bike Rodeo
Maverick was one of about five kindergartners in his class to participate in the school's bike rodeo. He was so excited! Lehi was able to come and watch, too. Since Lincoln was a little sad he couldn't ride his bike, we took him to get a donut before heading to the school. We totally lucked out and Maverick was the second kid to go through the course, which meant we didn't have to stand around waiting for all the other kids while Maverick has his 2 minutes in the spot light. He did a great job and was grins the whole time.
You've Been Booed
At the start of October, we have a tradition to drop off treats to friends with a "You've Been Booed" note, inviting others to do the same. Since the boys are young, I have tried to do treats they can help make. This year, we decided on "mummy" cookies & cream bark and a Halloween version of "Christmas crack." Naturally, there was some sampling, and I must say, they were delicious. We did "sneaky" deliveries (ring the doorbell and book it to the van). We laughed and laughed when Lincoln would come running to the van yelling "Go mommy, go mommy!!" (We would leave the door open for them to jump in quickly).
Painting Pumpkins
For Maverick's class, they were asked to decorate a pumpkin like a book character and bring it to school. Naturally, we have a few Ninja Turtle books laying around (ok that's a lie, they are well loved and read often), so we were able to do TMNT pumpkins. Maverick wanted to do Donatello and Lincoln picked Raphael. I got supplies and pretty much let them at it, minute hot gluing the masks/eyes on. They did a pretty stellar job and were very proud of their masterpieces.
School Carnival
We thought we would be smart and go to the school carnival right when it started....bad idea. There was no where to park. I wisely suggested we come back later, because everyone who was currently there were not going to be leaving soon. Therefore, spots would not open up. Unfortunately, that meant Lehi couldn't come with us (I can't remember what he had that evening that kept him). So I braved the crowds and took the boys a couple hours later. They really liked the activities in the gym, the games outside (their favorite was the tree game--where you got to pick a a lolly pop off a "tree"). Maverick also won an Air Force cup that another kid has been trying to get for at least 6 times--Maverick walked on up and got it first try (poor other kid). It was all fun and games....and then I introduced them to the cake walk. Maverick's competitive side came out and he was determined to win. After about 5 rounds of losing, Mav & Linc handed in their last tickets, anxiously hoping they would leave with a sugary treat. Oh my lanta, you should have seen how excited Maverick was when they called the number he was standing on! Very last chance, and he clenched it.

Love Creek Orchards
Trying to enjoy it not being scorching hot "fall" weather, we took a drive through back country to a small town who is known for their pumpkin patch & apple ice cream. Honest review, it was not worth what the patch charged us to get in (I think I was just spoiled by Idaho and Washington hay/corn mazes and pumpkin patches), but the boys had a lot of fun. It was simple but beautiful outside and gave them a chance to get out some energy and run around. Lincoln did not want to go on the tractor ride, but Mav was all about it. We waited in a line for longer than we should have to get the boys cotton candy that we paid more for that we should have--but lucky for us, it was right next to the hay maze, so the boys went through that at least 10 times.
The apple ice cream in a small shop just down the street was awesome. The shop was super unique inside, too, and a fun atmosphere.

Halloween
Cousins always have more fun together, so Tasha and I ordered a scary face pizza for them to down before hitting up the streets for a candy run. Maverick wanted to be a ninja turtle this year, which meant that Lincoln was going to be one, too. I lucked out and found both at a second-hand kids' store and spent a whopping $10 for both costumes (score!). We dubbed them the "90's" and "2000's" turtles, for obvious reasons. We did a few houses with the Westensee family and then loaded up in the van to roam around our neighborhood. Lincoln was cracking us up because he kept walking with his hand planted firmly and proudly on his hip. It should be noted that this was Lincoln's first time trick-or-treating, since he fell asleep last year before we left the house. Additionally, may I just throw out there I was 38 weeks while running around with our little turtle gang. We covered some legit distance and filled their buckets to the brim.
If we had a ward party (we did a fall festival this year) I was all cued up to be the most epic fat Thor.

The Original Ice Factory
While shopping for the boys' Halloween costumes, we happened upon this little joint. For a preggo woman whose diet consisted primary of ice for the last month (seriously though, I am eating like 12 cups a day), it was like a ray of light shown down from the heavens and whispered my name. It was heaven. ...on the other hand, Lehi dubbed it "the little factory from Hell" since biting ice (both an action on his part and simply hearing it) is like nails on a chalk board. He endured my heaven and his hell well. ;)
