Birthday Bash

We celebrated my birthday a weekend early this year and man was it worth it. The amazing Aunt Bobo & Uncle Andrew watched the boys overnight so Lehi and I could have a late date night. We started with Red Lobster, went to the opening of Wonder Woman (we still talk about how awesome it was), and finished the night with Sonic shakes. I was determined to go out for dessert. After driving around trying to see what was open at midnight, we saw the beaming lights of Sonic. We also realized small shakes are more than enough to fill ya as we plowed our way through our mediums.

The next morning, I attended the baptisms of two of my darling primary kiddos and then we had a great time "adulting" by running some errands, kiddo free, which is always refreshing.

On my actual birthday, I hit the gym, went grocery shopping, cleaned the house, and ate angel food cake Lehi made. A day in the life! :)

The following day, Tasha surprised me with a girl's night complete with feasting on Texas Road House, failed clothes shopping, women's basketball, and topping it off with a stop at Cheesecake Factory to get our slices "to-go." We decided to veto wearing socks and sandals (we don't wear ball shoes outside), so we walked in with our ball gear and socks. Oh the looks we got! It was awesome. Tasha brought me home way past my bedtime, only for me to find another birthday surprise--a chaise in our reading nook that I absolutely love. Lehi put it together while I was gone with Bobo. My birthday was a total blast and celebrated over the course of a few days (which makes it even better).

Favorite Things Party

I have heard these "Favorite Things" parties are amazing, so I was determined to throw one. I have wanted to for a long time, so I  added a "belated birthday" tagline and made it happen. Totally worth it. We decided who shared their favorite things by having everyone answer questions about some of their favorite things (celebrity crush, binge show, junk food, drink, music artist, etc), randomly drew them, and guessed who it was (who then shared their items). So many great finds--I am pretty sure I have purchased at least 5 items so far on my own). Our living room was full of beautiful women, laughter, and fun. At one point, the responses to the "favorite ___" questions were: Mark Walburg, Taking Back Sunday, Coke,...) and I thought, "man, this person sounds exactly like Lehi! They should be friends." Then it was discovered that Lehi did indeed, fill out a form of his own and added it to our mix! Stinking punk. It made for a good laugh though!

Baseball Game

Lehi organized an event with USAA that landed us tickets to a Mission's Baseball Game. It was hot, the boys were grumpy, and the line to get hot dogs was loooong and I thought I was going to pack up the boys and just head home before even attempting to watch the game. But when we got to our seats, it ended up being a ton of fun (and Missions won)! Maverick would almost always turn away when they hit the ball, but we think he got the general idea of how baseball is played.

Pool Day

Maverick and I headed to join Tasha at the pool while Lehi worked from home and Lincoln napped. The pool is a lot of prying Maverick off our body in the "big water" and getting him to figure out how to actually float with his puddle jumper rather than face-plant. Status is a major work in progress. I would take him into the deeper water for a few minutes at a time and work with him a bit. Eventually, that turned into me pushing/spinning a small tube with Maverick and Brooklynn in it.When  Lehi texted me that Lincoln was awake, Tasha offered to watch Maverick for the next hour or so she would be at the pool, and I headed home. I missed some pretty epic things!

First, Brooklynn was holding Maverick's hand--Maverick was unaware that she was going to jump into the pool while holding it.

Second (and by far the most epic that I am so sad I missed): Maverick was running on the side of the pool and Tasha shouted, "Maverick, don't run!!" He turned to listen to her, and ran right off the edge of the sidewalk into the pool.

Night-light Nighmare

I heard Maverick screaming and calling "Dad" so I kicked Lehi and told him Maverick was calling for him (knowing full well if I went in there when he wanted Dad, the issue would not be resolved quickly). After awhile Lehi came back into bed and told me we forgot to turn on Mav's nigh light, it was pitch black in Mav's room, and he was so scared he was shaking. Lehi told him, "You were so brave, buddy." and he responded, "No, I not brave. It so dark!" I realized later Maverick was most likely yelling "dark" rather than "Dad."

Bedtime BS

We sing Maverick one song when putting him down for bed each night. In the past he went through phases when we would sing a specific song for a long time--I am a Child of God, You are my Sunshine, Jesus Wants me for a Sunbeam, etc. Then Lehi taught him "Fly Eagles Fly," and we sang that for awhile. And like a switch, something changed these routine songs into "Mom, sing the Thor song" or "I want...Captain America!!" These, all being songs that we do not know (and usually correlate with what book we read for bed that night). So Lehi and I have become accustomed to making up songs.

Maverick Memes:

...just a few of his latest and greatest common sayings...

"You bad mommy!" (usually when I tell him "no" or  I am disciplining him)

"I just teasin'!" (When he says something silly)

"Dat a good idea, mom, hu?" (When he suggested something he wants to do)

"Hey Pink one!" (Addressing me, the pink power ranger, when we play pretend--which seems like all day)

"It all my fault!!!" (In the most dramatic voice the kid can muster, when he spills or something like unto it).

A few days after spending one Sunday making cookie dough to freeze and use when needed:
"We need to have cookies in our heart so Jesus can eat them." His cousin told him that day, while tapping his chest, "You have Jesus in your heart, Maverick. Did you know that?"
