Lincoln's Lays in on the Line
Lincoln has been way more aggressive/giving a solid effort in soccer this season. It has been so fun to watch him! He keeps up with the two fastest kids on the team (Cole being one of them), runs his little buns off to play defense, and is getting some good kicks in on offense. All of his hard work paid off in a game this month where he scored his very first goal...and then another one. We couldn't let his hard work go unrecognized, so after his game we got Crumbl cookies to celebrate.
He has also been cracking us up with the way he has been wearing his soccer socks. He insists on having them rolled all the way down, making a scrunchie like look at the top of his cleats. Part of this new fashion statement on his part might have something to do with the fact I could only find one shin guard, that he did in fact wear on his leg of choice. But after forgetting to get a new pair week after week, he just accepted the fact his shins would be bare and totally embraced it. Perhaps it was an intimidation play on his part for the opposing team, bearing those unprotected shins, saying "come and get me."
Lincoln Takes Laps
Clearly, Lincoln had an exciting month. He also did some one-on-one swimming lessons. This was sort of a big deal for him because he was so nervous to go (he cried on the drive there the first time). He is not used to doing things without Maverick, especially newer things. I was shocked when he got right in the pool with his teacher and was a total champ. We are still working on him being comfortable putting his head underwater, but he was able to learn some good swimming form and showed off his "monkey" skills (cruising around the pool perimeter while holding onto the edge). He can also blow bubbles with his nose by humming to help him keep the water out. The last two lessons (of five) he even went off the diving board! And by went off, I mean the most slow decent from standing, to sitting, to scooting off the diving board. We didn't care how he went off, the important thing is he did it!
Mother's Day
Lehi took the boys out on Saturday night so do some Mother's Day shopping. When they came home, they gave me flowers Mav and Lincoln picked out (tradition) and Mav proceeded to tell me, "We tried to get you that chocolate that you really like from that one store (Sees), but the line was super long, so...we we got you a crouton instead." I laughed and confirmed, "You got me a crouton?" At which point Lehi jumped in and said "coupon, Maverick. A coupon."
The number on thing this preggo lady wanted for Mother's Day was being able to sleep in. And sleep in I did. It was glorious. Breakfast in bed, church, and lounging around for the day were the best. Maverick made a hand print shrink-a-dink key chain and Lincoln delivered an "About My Mom" book and some Dove chocolate. Lehi made a lemon Alfredo pasta for dinner, which was delicious.
Sharing Smorgasbord
Lincoln is my little errand buddy (along with Brielle of course). When we were at Costco, I noticed they were selling churros again, something that Lincoln has been long awaiting (which is funny because I think he has maybe gotten a churro twice in his life). I told him that we could get him one when we were checking out, to which he eagerly agreed. He just held it the whole way home, not even taking a nibble. Then he brought it to the kitchen counter and asked me to cut it in half so he could share it with Maverick. This is something he does regularly, always sharing his treat with his brother. Lincoln is my giver. When Maverick came home, he said they had a cookie day at school, and he pulled out a bag with a variety of small cookies he has saved for Lincoln. Oh how they made my momma heart proud, thinking of each other and unselfishly sharing.
Maverick Dance Festival
For the first time ever, Maverick's school was having a dance festival (which in retrospect, isn't as exciting as it sounds because the school has only been opened for 2 years). Maverick told me he was nervous for it, but he was also excited. Lincoln, Brielle, and myself loaded up some camping chairs to sit on at the play ground where the performance took place. Each grade had a song with actions they danced to. Maverick's was "We are Family" and he boogied! Of course, he was in the very back row and hard to catch on video, but he showed off some pretty sweet moves and loved it. Now however, he can't stand the song. I think he is scarred.
Trampoline Date
Lincoln went on a date with me this month. We got lunch of his choice (Chik-fil-et), put Brielle down for a nap, and then headed to the trampoline to eat. It was so much fun. We asked each other a lot of questions, like what is something you want to do this summer and what superpower would you have? For future reference, Lincoln would like to have super strength, and then his second would be super speed like the Flash. I told him I would want telepathy as my first and then the ability to remember everything I read. After our date, he had to confirm with Lehi that my second super power was an actual super power. It was a simple date and just what we needed!

Maverick Wraps Up 1st Grade
All month, Maverick's class has been working on earning "money" so they could spend it at their class store that was open the second to last day of school. The store was filled with small items donated by parents that they would purchase with what they earned. Maverick came home with a grocery bag loaded with some awesome toys, the majority of which were perfect for summer. He was so excited to show us everything that he bought--from water guns, to fans, to bubbles, to candy.
Maverick has grown a lot this year! He loved his engineering class the most and is great at math. He made huge improvement in his reading and made a ton of new friends. Maverick is our social butterfly, and transitioned into a new school so well. Mrs. Urritia, his teacher, was so perfect for him! She was patient, kind, and made learning fun. Maverick legitimately was so sad anytime he couldn't go to school and cried a little the last day when he got home because he was going to miss school so much.
We went to the library when he got home from school (since he was only there an hour and a half), loaded up on books for the newt two weeks, and grabbed some soda on the way back. We usually don't have soda in the house for the kids (Lehi is a whole different story), so it is usually special occasions, like the Superbowl, where they get to drink it. They were so excited for their Jet and Shark gummies that came on the top of their drinks. It was a perfect way to celebrate our first day of summer break.
