March Madness Championship Game
Tasha and I not only attended the final four games, but we pulled off going to the championship game, too. We plotted which seats would be the best for our budget and left a little early for the game to pick them up. There were so many Michigan fans, everywhere. We sported our Nova shirts that Tasha had her friend made for us. When we were taking some pictures outside, a group a college kids wearing Michigan shirts asked us, "So how does it feel to win a game you haven't played yet." and then proceeded to talk all type of trash on their team. It is safe to say not all the fans held the same opinion as they did.Our seats were pretty sweet; center court and not tippy top of the nose-bleeds like the final four game. Unfortunately, we sat a couple of rows below the world's most annoying/drunk Michigan fan who barely knew the difference between offense and defense. Needless-to-say we were super excited when she got sick and left at half time. It was a much more pleasant game when she left, but she left behind a friend who clearly knew little about basketball. It was pretty amusing talking about why he was wrong when he would whine about a call. And it was an awesome championship game. #10 (DiVincenzo) was on FIRE; a well deserved MVP award to that man!
Easter Sunday
The Easter bunny likes to be sneaky at our house and hides the Easter baskets. It took Mav a bit to find his, but before long he was opening every egg and making a huge mess. One of the favorite items were bubbles, which were immediately opened and used. We spent the morning/afternoon watching conference and dying Easter eggs (Maverick's favorite), and evening doing an indoor egg hunt for the kiddos and dinner with the Westensee family. It was this day that we discovered Mav's love of hard boiled eggs, which he now requests weekly.| This is what happens when you take his candy |
Maverick's Birthday
I snuck into his room in the wee hours and spread balloons all over as a surprise when he woke up; and he was excited! We opened presents and met up with friends at the park for a combined "birthday party," aka let the kids play, eat pizza, and consume cupcakes. Maverick requested an "Eagles" birthday, but I threw him a pretty epic one last year, and told him this year was going to be low key. So I gathered up some Eagle plates and napkins, a friend made Eagles colored cupcakes, and the kid was elated. Nothing beats a Spiderman (Cam's request) Eagles birthday, am I right?Unfortunately, it was 32 degrees--which is pretty much below zero for our Texas kiddos. They were all pretty miserable (including the adults) despite our best efforts to bundle them up. Maverick didn't seem to mind and was all grins from ear to ear. It was a quick party because all the kids just wanted to go to the cars, but sometimes the simple and short ones are the great ones. Naturally the next day was a balmy 70 degrees, as was every day for the rest of the week. We were just unlucky!
We let him decide where he wanted to eat with his cousins, who convinced him Red Robin was the best place ever. Their lures of a balloon and song did the trick, although he told me "But I don't want them to sing to me." Maverick weighed in at the 50th percentile and measured in (shockingly) in the 70th percentile for height!
Poteet Strawberry Festival
One of my students gave me tickets to a strawberry festival, so we thought we might as well go see what it is all about! It was a beautiful drive outside of the city. The amount of people setting up shop on the road with grills in the back of their trucks and "turkey legs, $8.00" sign was laughable. We thought the first one we saw was interesting, but we must have passed 10 different places in the span of 5 miles. We quickly discovered all the good food was just outside the gates of the festival. We set a limit of money we were willing to spend on rides; all of which went to Maverick because Lincoln was too short to ride anything. By far the highlight was the homemade strawberry short-cake. The strawberries were amazing!!![]() |

Lehi Birthday
The boys and I work Lehi up with some delicious crepes and one of his a juice that he drank in Madagascar. He then headed off to work (joys of having a birthday during the week as an adult). I had something up my sleeve, however. The boys and I had arranged with one of his co-workers to let us into the building & be our escort (security is pretty regulated there) to surprise/embarrass him at work with balloons and homemade cards from the boys. Well...it just so happened that the co-worker got super sick and was sleeping at home when we arrived. After a few un-returned texts, I gave him a call. He apologized over and over again and explained he was sick, took medicine, and was knocked out. The boys and I are in the waiting room at this point. So his co-worker calls another co-worker to see if they can let us in...long story short, we find out Lehi has recently left to the comic book store and wouldn't be back for awhile. Security also told us that Lehi needed to be our escort as part of policy. His supervisor ended up coming and getting us, along with Lehi, after me wrestling the boys for about 45 minutes in the waiting area. Maverick successfully stepped on one of the macrons I brought to surprise Lehi (courtesy of River Rose Bakery) about 2 minutes before he got there, naturally. But we were still able to (kinda) surprise him! I will call it a partial fail. After work, we got a babysitter and went to this amazing little local pizza shop to see Lehi's friend perform his last live music gig before moving to Austin. It was the perfect evening, warm, outdoors, and great food.
Quotable, Maverick:
"My pee talks like R2D2!"(Boiling some eggs on the stove) "Mom. We need to call Ghostbusters. The eggs are shaking! But I don't know their passcode."
(Making pretend guns out of Megablocks together) "That's not very good, Mom."
"Mom. Since I accidentally watched 2 shows, can I try to watch just one like you said?"
